This Privacy Policy explains how we collect, use, disclose, and safeguard personal data when you use the U.S. Military Discount Finder mobile application (the “App”). By downloading or using the App, you acknowledge that you have read and understood this Privacy Policy.

3. Scope (United States Only)
The App is offered for use in the United States only. This Privacy Policy applies to personal data collected through the App.
4. Information We Collect
4.1 Registration & Account Data
When you create an account, we collect:
- First name and last name
- Email address
- Date of birth (used for age eligibility verification)
4.2 Location Data (Core Functionality)
The App’s core functionality is providing nearby discounts and distance-based results. For that reason, location access is essential for the App to function.
- Location Type: We collect and use approximate location (medium accuracy).
- When Collected: We request location access when you log in.
- Foreground Location (while the App is open): We access location to show discounts near you and to display location-based results.
- Background Location (when enabled): Background location is used to support nearby discount push alerts while you are moving and not actively using the App.
Important: Background location behavior depends on your permissions:
- We only activate background location behavior when you grant the required location permissions and push notifications are enabled (so alerts can be delivered).
- If those conditions are not met, we may still use location only while the App is open, but not as an active background service for alerts.
Collection Frequency (approximate):
- Foreground (normal use): about every 2 minutes
- Background service (for alerts): about every 20 seconds
We do not store location history:
- We do not store or retain your location on the device or on our servers.
- We do not share your location with stores or other third parties for their own purposes.
4.3 Push Notifications
If you enable notifications, we may send you functional alerts only, such as “A discount is nearby.” We do not send marketing, newsletters, or promotional campaigns unrelated to nearby discount alerts.
Notification Controls:
- You can disable notification categories inside the App.
- Device-level notification permission can be changed in your device settings.
4.4 Technical & Diagnostic Data (Crash/Telemetry)
When the App crashes or an exception occurs, we automatically collect diagnostic data to improve reliability and performance. This may include:
- Timestamp of the crash (UTC/ISO 8601)
- Device and environment details (OS version, device model, platform, App version, build number, locale)
- App event context related to the crash (non-content operational signals)
We do not intentionally collect sensitive identifiers like advertising identifiers for tracking across apps.
5. How We Use Your Information
We use collected data to:
- Account Management: create and maintain your account; verify you are 18+
- Service Delivery: provide distance-based discounts, nearby results, and maps
- Notifications: send nearby discount alerts (when enabled)
- App Performance & Improvement: troubleshoot crashes and improve stability
- Security: protect accounts and prevent abuse
- Legal Compliance: comply with applicable laws and enforce our policies
6. Legal Basis (Where Applicable)
Depending on your jurisdiction and applicable law, we process personal data based on:
- Consent: where you grant permissions (e.g., location, notifications)
- Contractual necessity: to provide core App functionality you request
- Legitimate interests: securing and improving the App

7. Data Sharing and Disclosure
We do not sell or rent your personal information.
We may share limited data with service providers strictly to operate the App:
- Push Notifications: Firebase (for delivery of push alerts)
- Telemetry/Diagnostics: Azure Application Insights (crash/diagnostic reporting)
- Maps: Google Maps (to render maps and location-based displays)
These providers may process data on our behalf under contractual obligations to protect confidentiality and security.
We may also disclose information:
- Legal Compliance: if required by law, regulation, or legal process
- Business Transfers: in a merger, acquisition, or sale of assets (with notice where required)
8. Data Retention
We retain data only as long as needed for the purposes described:
- Account data (name, email, DOB): retained while your account is active. If you request deletion, we delete your account data.
- Crash/diagnostic telemetry: retained for up to 180 days to troubleshoot and improve the App.
- Location data: not retained (no location history stored).

You may request deletion of your account and associated personal data:
- Through the App (in-app flow), and/or

Upon verified deletion, we delete your account data fully, subject only to rare cases where limited retention is required by law (if applicable).

10. Your Privacy Rights (United States)
Depending on your state of residence, you may have rights such as:
- Access to the personal data we hold about you

11. Children’s Privacy
The App is intended only for users 18+. We do not knowingly collect personal data from anyone under 18. If we learn that we have collected data from a minor, we will delete it.

We implement reasonable administrative, technical, and physical safeguards to protect your information. However, no system is 100% secure, and we cannot guarantee absolute security. You are responsible for maintaining the confidentiality of your credentials.
13. International Transfers
Your data may be processed in the United States or other locations where we or our service providers operate. We take reasonable steps to protect your information consistent with this Privacy Policy.
